Point & Click adventures will always share a sentimental place in my nostalgia, being a big fan of old games such as Sam & Max, Indiana Jones: and the Fate of Atlantis and The Adventures of Willy Beamish. Very rare do people get to play some of the games that made the genre, although Beneath a Steel Sky wasn’t one of them. Beneath a Steel Sky was, however, one of the few point-&-click adventures that introduced vocalized dialogue into the genre (back in the day it was a pretty big thing).

The game plays in a cyberpunk dystopian setting in Australia, where you play Robert Foster, a man who lost his mother in a plane crash and was adopted and raised by aborigines, as he grows to adulthood, he discovers that he as a talent for building robots and machinery. One day an attacking hover vehicle comes in and attacks the village wanting Foster to come with them, claiming that he is called “Overmann”. as the story progresses Foster understands why is he brought to the city where these attackers from, who is he exactly and who brought him there.

The key to a good point-&-click adventure game is story, and Beneath a Steel Sky has plenty, the story is well written funny, many times I have laughed out loud at the many jokes the game has to offer. The characters here are loaded with personality, never is there a character in this game that is bland and boring.  The game runs pretty well since it doesn’t do anything complicated with the controls, you either look at something or do an action on it with or without an additional item.

Beneath a Steel Sky is a fun game to play, it’s free to play through Good old Games or from the scummvm player.

what we think: if you have never played a point & click adventure game before, Beneath a Steel Sky is good start, mind you you do die in this one compared to the lucas arts adventure games that you can’t die in. I haven’t played this during it’s time, but it did however win my heart and go down into my list of all time favorite adventure games of all time, the iOS version is great too.
