If you expected something in the vein of No More Heroes’ insanity from Frog Minutes, simmer down, recline, and take a deep breath. Frog Minutes is a game that does what it’s title says; you spend time fattening up frogs. It’s also worth noting that it’s Grasshopper Manufacture’s only game to feature a ton of grasshopers, yet.

The game begins by showing you a beautiful and tranquil pond, then you’re greeted by a female narrator who instructs you on how to play the game.

It’s quite simple; you catch critters, and feed a frog till it’s full to catch it.
Any time you see a bug, tap it,  and you’ve caught it. When a frog appears, you drag and drop bugs out of the bottom bar onto the frog, this in turn, fills up a bar under the frog that let’s you know how full it is. The frog conveys to you the bug it wants via a large thought bubble; if you feed it a moth when it wants a grasshopper, the bar will increase by a bit. After it’s full, you capture that pesky little hopper by tapping on it. Once that’s done, some info on the frog will appear; hooray for learning!

While the process sounds like it could get old after a couple of successful captures, it doesn’t.

As you play, new bugs and hiding places for frogs appear, who become more finicky with the bugs you’re supposed to feed them as time goes on. Also, a scrolling info bar at the top keeps you updated about your accomplishments; like the weight of the captured frog, or pulling off a combo, etc.

In case you didn’t know, all proceeds from this app go towards the Japanese relief efforts.

The app itself only costs $0.99, and it’s universal*; so if you’re still feeling generous after  purchasing the app, which you WILL, why not splurge over some goodwill by donating some more?
