StreetPass Dubai Meetup 4, Survey Results, and More

Wow, our fourth meetup!
I’m looking forward to this one since the last one was a, masha’Allah, huge success; 20 people showed up, all with DSs, 3DSs & games in hand. We had a spectacular time gaming, streetpassing, and tagging each other.

If you missed out on the event you, head over to our Facebook Page were we posted the photos taken from the event. (Like the page while you’re at it.)

To the people who attended the last meetup, you’d recall a survey I handed out that had a couple of questions about the games you owned among other things. Well, I’ll be putting that info to use now.

According to the survey, the most common games between the attendees are: (Ranked)
1- Pokemon Black & White (DS)
2- Dragon Quest IX – Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS)
3- Street Fighter IV (3DS)
4- Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks (DS)
5- The World Ends With You (DS)

So if you’re looking for people to use Canvass mode on DQIX, use the Entralink on Pokemon Black and White, or battle on SFIV with, we’ve got them for you.

Next, most of you answered that you’d be “More Likely” to show up if I encouraged everyone to play traditional Pokemon games at the meetups. Therefore, I’m going to try and put together a competitive Pokemon tournament for all you trainers with bloodthirsty monsters.
I’ll explain the rules and stuff after I’ve thought about them for a bit or come up with them on the fly with the participants tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow, I guess its time I start talking about the meetup tomorrow.
If anyone remembers, we had a very long discussion on Lochal Archade’s Beluga Pod about the location of this event so I threw up a poll and let the community decide. It just ended and here are the results.
So, we’ll be meeting at WildPeeta Open Space around 7pm, right after Al Maghrib prayer, and stay until 10pm.
Please bring your chargers with you too, just in case.

Please RSVP here: http://twtvite.com/stpassdxb4
It includes details about how to get to the venue by Metro or by car, along with directions to parking spots.

Last time we met we played lots of Mario Kart DS, Tetris DS, Pokemon,  and Advance Wars along with some Pictochat.
(Side Note: Nintendo killed Pictochat on the 3DS in favor of a new messaging system that’ll be available soon, google “Nintendo 3DS Pictochat” for more details.)

To change it up a bit here’s a list of games that have DS Download Play functionality:

  1. Mario Party DS
  2. Metriod Prime Hunters
  3. Point Blank DS
  4. New Super Mario Bros.
  5. Jump Ultimate Superstars
  6. Brain Age 1 & 2
  7. Planet Puzzle League
  8. Cooking Mama 2
  9. Geometry Wars
  10. Meteos

Those are the ones I know of, if you have any of them please bring them with you. Similarly, if you have one that isn’t listed here please bring it with you as well.

Finally to address people’s questions about what games to bring, it’s your choice; It can be single player, multiplayer, Single-Cart Download Play or Multi-Cart Play. Heck, it doesn’t even need to be a DS or 3DS game! You can bring your PSP with you and play Soul Caliber or Little Big Planet with other PSP users. Got a Neo Geo Pocket or a Game Gear? Bring it with you too!

Now that’s done and over with here’s some experimental ideas I thought of:

1- Maybe there’s an under-appreciated game that you wish more people would play; why not bring it with you and pitch it to the attendees? If you guys want, we can have some time set aside for people to go up and talk about games they think you should play. Point being that you’re speaking directly to the core audience, the DS/3DS enthusiasts. You can let them try it out too.

2- We can start a Market where you could Buy, Sell, or Swap/Lending games.
For the swapping part, I’m thinking of limiting it to between every StreetPass Event but it can be at the swappers/lenders discretion.
We’ll keep track of everything using a Spreadsheets and other magical things on Google Docs, which only a couple of people will be allowed access to that includes a list of names, games, emails, and phone numbers.
The only requirement is that you attended two or more StreetPass meetings.
Practically, this works between strangers. If the lenders/swappers are friends then it’s got nothing to do with this, you deal with it.

3- As everyone knows E3 is coming up, and Nintendo’s conference is on June 7 2011. It’ll be at 8pm UAE time.
I was thinking we could have a small meetup and watch the livestream together using the projector at WildPeeta.
It won’t be a StreetPass Meetup, since Meetup 5 is happening on  Thursday June 9 2011, coincidentally…

Let me know what you think in the comments and see you all tomorrow!
