What I hope to see in E3
Everybody is itching to know what’s going to be announced in E3, by the time you’re reading this, it would have started already. Keep in mind, these aren’t predictions, this is just me hoping that things would look a little promising, as I am not really that excited about any of it so far.
New games, less sequels:
I know by saying this, I’m coming out as a hypocrite since 3 of my most anticipated games this year, involve sequels to really old series (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Deus Ex: Human Revolution) and a game that has “Space Marine” in the title (Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine), and after that I point and laugh at new comers such as Dragon’s Dogma (say whatever you wanna say, I still think that’s capcom jumping onto the Skyrim/Dragon Age band wagon, much like Sega is doing with Yakuza and zombies right now). While people don’t believe me, I am excited about the new Devil May Cry (mostly because of the developers making it), there is still a part of me that wants new titles.
Let me be clear here, I’m not saying they shouldn’t do sequels. I’m saying LESS sequels and more new games. Let me put it this way, when the games you are excited about the most on 3DS are remakes of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, while people I know are more looking forward for ANOTHER Final Fantasy 4 remake, that’s where I think we have a problem. Sure those are remakes and not sequels, you still see what I mean, why aren’t there any new games? While Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remains one of my most favorite games of all time (and I believe that it ended the series and 4 did not exist) and I know that I will get it whenever it’s out (in other words, it can take its time), I seriously think developers should move on and make something new (Dragon’s Dogma does not count).
El Shaddai, Asura’s Wrath and Devil’s Third all look like promising titles, here’s hoping to see more big companies following suit.
More good games coming from Japan:
I’m the last person to differentiate games by country they’re made in, a good game is a good game regardless of what it’s on and where it comes from, and I know I have been giving the Japanese a hard time for many explained reasons in reviews in the past. Let’s face it, Japanese developed games haven’t had it very well in the last few years, and due to several circumstances that have happened recently, things are looking harder and harder. While a giant chunk of games out of there I would say weren’t that good (see Fragile Dreams), gems like Bayonetta, Game Dev story and Majin & the Forsaken Kingdom came out of there and touched my heart in ways other games didn’t. If you notice the point above, all the “new titles” I listed are from Japanese developers.
Maybe troubled developers need to keep away from the big consoles for a while, think small on platforms that have less risk, maybe portables. The 3DS definitely needs more games at the moment and the PSVita (NGP) is on the way.
To conclude…
It’s nice to dream sometimes, I’m quite sure none of what I hope for will be taken in consideration, and I understand that people make a living out of making games and now may not be the right time for risks with an economy and all, but again it’s nice to dream. Oh well…
Putting that all aside, how about join us tomorrow at Wild Peeta for the WildPE3ta to watch the Nintendo conference tomorrow?
Saving...
