Contract Killer

Platforms: Android, iOS
Genre(s): Shooter
Publisher(s): Glu
Developer: Glu

It is very hard to do a first person shooter on a mobile device, controls are usually awkward and try really hard to mimic twin stick controls like on consoles. In many cases it doesn’t work to the point that some developers try to make a work around for such limited controls on mobile touch screen devices, usually have the entire game on rails.

While Contract Killer isn’t exactly a first person shooter per se, Glu definitely found a smart work around for the limited controls of the touchscreen. Being a sniper, you are fixed to one spot and all you have to do is aim and shoot for the entirety of the missions. While to some that may sound dull and boring, there is a good change of scenery, and a really good selection of weaponry to use.

The way the game works, the overworld map shows you a number of clients, these clients want some people dealt with and all you have to do is follow orders and kill people with your guns. The money you earn gets you better weapons and more ammo, the more missions you complete, the more experience you gain to unlock more weapons in the weapons shop.

Though not all weapons are accessed overtime, Contract Killer is what many people like term as a “freemium” game. Basically a free game to download and play as you please and pay for more advanced content in the game. While this may turn some people off, it is safe to say that this game is completely playable without the “freemium” content.

Though I wish the game had more variety in terms of missions, all you do is shoot mafia warlords and gangsters. there is no specific strategy beyong getting bullets in bad guys’ heads as quick and efficient as humanly possible. But hey, you can’t complain that much about a free game with this much amount of content and Quality.

What We Think: Heck, the game is free and it has proved to be quite fun in short and long bursts. I think Glu nailed the free to play business model with this game and in the same time left enough content to be played for free. the game is available on both Android and iOS, so you have many ways of getting your hands on it.

I am playing this game and I do like the simple controls and the fact that the games MAKES me put the phone down – allows me to get some work done in the interim ;)
