Unboxing: Darkstar Captain’s Box

There was a phase in the game industry where everyone was going crazy at the fact that full motion video was possible in video games. Animators made full motion interactive cartoons (see Space Ace, Brain Dead 13, Dragon’s Lair, etc), and actors made it into video games. But of course full mtion video had its  setbacks with being linear and not as controllable as having the game run in real time.

However, there is a certain cheesy charm in the games of that time, many “so bad it’s fun” laughable game came out of that era that companies had to stop making them to at least be taken seriously. A decade or so after, some people (like myself) miss those kind of games, there was a certain goofiness that could not be seen in any other medium. To my luck there is one game that was made recently that seems to capture the essence of that simple time.

In case you haven’t been following the forums, there is a modern FMV game roaming around the internet, the Game is called Darkstar. The in-game footage was taken some time in 2000 and didn’t see release  until recently, it Starred the cast of Mystery Science Theater 3000, which our video podcasts draws inspiration from. With much excitement, I decided to order the “Captain’s Box”, which included the game among many other bonus content.

The box was a bit of a surprise, I had completely forgotten about it by the time I ordered it, the box was fairly large. Sadly there was no “centerpiece” style box inside, this box was to carry the game and all the extras to whoever orders.

Bubblewrap over both the game box and the Original Sountrack Album, The game box comes signed by the director of the game.

A few hi-res photos of the cast with their signatures.

The package also comes with a T-Shirt

I will be playing this game some time soon, expecting to have good laugh at this, stay tuned for the review of the game.
