Preview: Tomb Raider

Square-Enix showed us a full length walkthrough video of the upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider in Games11

What are we talking about?

Where did we try it out?

Games11 at the Square-Enix booth.

What did we get to play?

It was only a video, but we’ve seen a good portion of the game that continues previous trailers. We were given a taste of what happens next and were able to see how the game plays. Many paths seem to open by going through certain procedures, like lighting certain objects on fire and moving certain things from a path for other things to go through by blowing up. The puzzles felt a lot like things you would find in games like Zelda and Darksiders, which looked pretty fun.

The world seems to be more open world than the last few games of the series, there’s even fast travel to quickly go to desired locations without the need of going through any path. Lara now has a “survival instinct” that helps her guide through the world, much like the “detective scope” in Batman Arkham Asylum. Many parts of the game will involve QTE, while that sounds underwhelming, it seems like they did a good job with it in this game.

So What do we think?

I was merely interested in the game before watching this video, now I’m genuinely excited with what the game has to offer. the “Uncharted clone” now looks like it has the potential to surpass Uncharted in everything, quite anxious to try the game out now. Tomb Raider will be out some time in the third quarter of 2012.
