Dark Souls

If you are looking for a game that will challenge your skills as a gamer, then Dark Souls is the game you should be looking at. I thought that dark souls is going to be like other RPGs in this generation. However, I changed my mind when I fought the first boss, they gave me a rusty sword at the beginning of the game and left me  alone in some asylum.

I started running around killing some mindless undead and I was so happy that im killing them so easily. I opened  a gate and the boss battle started, this is when I told myself “oh man the game is going to be pain in the neck”. Why? you might ask. Well, how would you feel when you cant really do any damage to the boss while he can kill you in two or three hits? Any way, I don’t want to spoil anything on you guys so I’ll talk about the game in general.

When you start the game you will be asked to create a character, name them, and so on. The game will also ask you to chose a class. You get to chose between 10 classes:

1. Warrior: A good class to begin with since you have early access to some weapons. However, getting magic is difficult in the beginning because you start with low intelligence and faith.

2. Knight: A tank class, which makes it great for new players since this class has a highest HP and defense. Unlike the Warrior, this class starts with high faith, which will help you to learn miracles (white magic) faster so that you can heal.

3. Wanderer: This class is also one of the good classes to start the game with because of the high dexterity, which allows you to wield light weapons. however, this class depends on evading more than blocking attacks because of the low HP.

4. Thief: This class is one of the hardest classes in the game because of the low HP, weak defenses and low range weapons. Unlike other melee classes, the thief depends one critical hits and counter attacks.

5. Bandit: The strongest of the melee classes since the high strength and endurance, which allows you to land more hits. This class is good for both new players and advanced players depending on your style.

6. Hunter: Good class for players who like to change their style every once in a while because the class starts with good strength and dexterity.

7. Sorcerer: If you like magic then this class is the one for you. You have an early access to some spells, which can be recharged every time you visit a bonfire. However, this is also the greatest weakness of this class because if you cannot use your spells then its over for you. You can put some points in other stats to help you use some light weapons in case you can’t use magic.

8. Pyromancer: By far this is the best class you can start with because you have a good melee weapon and a very powerful spell, which will help you take down powerful monsters in no time.

9. Cleric: This class starts with a healing spell, which will make things easier for you when you are out of combat and want to heal. This class wields maces but with few level ups you can get access to more weapons.

10. Deprived (the naked guy ): This is the hardest class to start with because you start with a club, shield and no armor. This means that you will get beat up very easily until you find armor. However, this is the only class that starts at level 11 with balanced stats. In other words, you can specialize in anything you want.

Things to keep in mind:

• Before you start the game you should keep in mind that this game is really hard (don’t get fooled by the easy start) and you are going to die a lot on the way to complete the game so get used to it and learn from your mistakes.
• Try to save your flasks for the boss fights.
• Dodging is king in this game, some attacks can eat up most of your stamina if you blocked them. So try to block the light attacks only and dodge the other attacks.
• Always lock-on your target so your attacks wont miss and it makes it easy for you to avoid being hit.
• When facing bosses that use melee weapons try to get them on a place higher that yours so you can easily hit them without being hit and without wasting your stamina.

So is it a good game to play?

Apart from the dying part of the game, yes is it. This game is really fun to play and here are the reasons:

1. You got full freedom to chose you combat style and you can get access to everything in the game because you can put the points wherever you like.

2. The world is huge.

3. The bosses are challenging.

4. There are lots of gear and weapons to chose from depending on your class and how you want to play the game.

Is there anything bad about the game?

Yes, some few things are annoying in the game such as:

1. Sometimes the frame rate goes crazy on you and the game become slower.

2. There are some bugs when fighting some monsters or bosses like when you fight some of the dark knights and you want to hide behind a wall, they can hit you because a small part of their weapons can go through the wall.

3. Lack of BGM. The only music you can hear is the boss fight music.

4. Weak storyline (in my opinion).
