Prepaid Credit Cards
You browse the web, and find a nice deal. X, Y, and Z games for just $2.99? Excellent! But no credit card. You run around, beg everyone for his credit card but to no avail, then go back to your room and drown your self in your tears on your bed, knowing you’ll never get those games at that price, and future bargains.
No worries, there’s a way for you poor person with money to spend (it’s Eid!) without having to sell your soul to a bank or getting a job. Majid Al Futtaim Financing have made a service where you can buy a prepaid credit card from various locations for 15 AED plus whatever amount you want to be put in the card.
The process is fairly simple:
- Go to any location listed here. I recommend Carrefour or Geant. Their cards are activated instantly.
- Ask the cashier for a prepaid credit card
- Give him/her the amount you want + 15 AED
- Log in through http://www.maffinanceprepaid.com/html/login.html (note: the security code is on the card’s package)
- The system will ask for a new security code. Put in a new one of your liking. This will act as your password to log into this page
- Go to your profile and put in your personal details there (you can put a US address here too, if you have one)
And you’re set. I can confirm it works fine on Steam and the UAE PlayStation Network Store, but Nintendo’s online shop seems to just steal your money and doesn’t put any points into your account, better to just buy point cards (remember that Wii points are different than the 3DS eShop points). I haven’t tested Microsoft’s Xbox Live or Games for Windows Live, but you can get the same kind of cards from several sites (Mohammad suggests PCgamesupply.com and play-asia.com).
The only two downsides I’ve seen with this is that you can’t top up your old cards and must buy new ones if you ran out of money. Of course, you pay 15 AED for each one. But at least you don’t have a bank fooling around with your card when there’s something barely suspicious, and don’t lose all your imaginary money if your credit card details fell into the wrong hands. (eg. PSN getting hacked).
Don’t spend all your Eidiyah in one place, and I wish you all a blessed Eid!
Saving...
