Preview: Asura’s Wrath

Capcom’s latest offer from the makers of many obscure anime-licensed games like all the recent Naruto and the .hack games

What are we talking about?
Capcom’s latest game that is a mixed of action, QTE and Sin & Punishment-esque shooting in a science fiction world inspired by Bhuddist legend.

Where did we try it out?
Gamesfest

What did we get to play?
The same demo that was available at Games 11.

Personally, I didn’t know what to expect of the game since I’ve seen it teased at TGS 2 years ago, and ever since my anticapation has been going up and down. Personally I liked the art style that seems to have taken much from what Street Fighter IV looks like (granted, I think it’s the same artist too), but later was let down by the QTE and the many people saying that it shares parallels with Dynasty Warriors.

What I played from the game shared a portion of many things, The game starts with Asura fighting a massive gray giant (name escapes me), the fight keeps switching from a series of QTEs to Sin & Punishment style run and gun sometimes with a little bit of flying). QTE is your standard “press the button flashing on the screen to progress”, if you miss one button you will have to restart the sequence from the beginning of it. The shooting again is very Sin & Punishment, except it felt a little uninspired at some points.

So What do we think?

I think the demo presented the game a little too poorly, but I didn’t exactly hate what I played from it. It just feels a lot like a launch title to a system’s release, so much on the visuals and less about the actual game. Which is kind of ironic since the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are somewhere near the end of their lifecycle, nonetheless, we will be checking out how the game fares around February 21st.
